Boulder sits on the southern side of the Super Pit and was a separate town until it amalgamated with Kalgoorlie, which is why it still has its own centre along Burt Street and its own character — a dense stock of older Goldfields housing, much of it heritage-era timber and iron, alongside newer infill.

That older housing is the reason cleaning here is not the same job as a modern build. Original floorboards, tiled hearths, timber sash windows and deep window tracks all hold Goldfields dust, and the wear on carpet and grout in a house that has been tenanted for decades does not come out with a mop.
